Maggie Neale is a fiber artist in Montpelier, Vermont.
"Color has attracted my interest all my life; I drew with crayons before I could talk; studied art in high school, college, and in workshops.
Being a free spirit, I like entering the art space to allow the color and lines to flow. My silk scarves, pinned flat onto a padded table, are each an abstract painting created individually with dyes. After mixing a selection of hues, I breath, then let the brush move as in a dance upon the silk flavoring the moment with color play.
Each silk must dry, then be steamed to set the color of the fiber reactive dye, washed thoroughly by hand and then machine, ironed and finally I can look upon each scarf to determine its value and venture.
Some of my large silk wall hangings have been shown in Vermont Supreme Court, Vermont Art Council, and Vermont galleries. My silk scarves are displayed in exhibits, galleries, and shops across the country."
