Phil Robertson

Artist Statement:
I have always been inspired by the landscape. It has been calling me since I was a young person as an art form.
Long story short, I feel fortunate to have gone to art school in the early 1980’s. It was an amazing experience that introduced me to printmaking, which has stuck with me as my main vehicle of expression. I continue to draw and sketch the landscape in the field, using this work as a vehicle for prints and sometimes paintings.

Art History has also been a major influence. My work has evolved into a strange mixture of Pop Art and German Expressionism. This combination of elements has enabled me to find a way to express a sense of ennui and loss at the degradation of the natural world that I have been aware of since a young child. In the end, it is all about making a statement about the pastoral landscape that I love so much.
